Salzberg – Day 2

20170604_213951.jpgGot to Salzberg late afternoon on Day 2….the delay in the flight cost us a day of site seeing but it worked out as we were both tired and needed some sleep.  What a place to rest….can’t ask for anything else from Mozart’s hometown.

We stayed at the Hotel Wolf-Dietrich in one of their double rooms….looking back over the website I realized that we were much more tired than I realized.  Our room DID NOT look like the ones on the website BUT was comfortable, enough room for two Americans, and breakfast in the morning was included.

We needed something to eat and both of us were almost out of energy….even with sleep on the flight over it just drains you for the first couple of hours.  Determined that we should try a lighter fare since it would be easier to sleep and we were going to attempt to wake up early and get moving the following morning.  Elected to try out Shrimps shrimps_slider_3.jpgand were treated to a wonderful meal.

A close second on the list was a much quainter restaurant on the same side of the walking district as we were staying…offered more of a traditional Austrian meal (meat/potatoes/kraut).

A short walk around to Mozarts house csm_mozart_wohnhaus_be657dc7a8and then back to the hotel….it’s time for some sleep.

Pensacola/ Atlanta/Munich/Salzburg – Day 1

It’s a busy day for us all around getting out of the country….woke up early in Pensacola so I could beat the weather and hop on the plane back to Atlanta to pick up Garnett.  Left Liam asleep alone in the bed and can’t help but look at him like a little shrimp in a big sea of the bed…it’s cute….enough of that, it’s time to get focused on travel to get out of country!

9am flight out of Pensacola is uneventful.  Thanks to my stellar (not really) status with Delta I was placed in a middle seat mid plane between to other “bigger guys.”  We all laughed that the plane would have to compensate for all of us being on the same row but it wasn’t horrible for a 48 minute flight.  The guy on my left was traveling to Billings, MT to go trout fishing with his son and the guy to my right was traveling to Traverse City, MI to visit his son in the Coast Guard.  Not a big city so it was interesting to find that the lady and her daughter in front of us was also traveling to Traverse City and she managed a hotel on close by.  Her daughter was on her first flight ever and was called out by the captain….kinda cool.

Was able to land, exit plane, take train to baggage claim, enter rental car tram, rent car, and exit airport in 28 minutes….I think that’s a record for me.  Happy to get back to Garnett and begin our vacation…I still needed to pack!

Got to the airport on time and all was well…flight to Munich was boarding when we arrived (had to stop in Duty Free for spirits for the trip) and were so excited we left the bag on the jetway (more later).  Garnett stayed back to confirm our seating and I went ahead to put our bags into overheads before space was taken up.  Seated in the rear which made me sad.  Garnett shows up soon afterwards and presents us with new seating.

Nothing earth shattering on the plane…about an hour outside of Nova Scotia we ended up having to fly back to Boston to have the plan serviced.  Someone had shoved something into the toilet which made it back up…4hrs later we’re back in route to Munich.  Oh well….can’t be to angry.

Upon arrival I asked if there was a way to get our Duty Free since it was left in Atlanta but attendants didn’t know….sitting in the airport getting ready to pick up a rental car an announcement comes over the loudspeaker announcing they have an unclaimed Duty Free Bag….the security people handed it over with frowns (they wanted to take it home).  Looks like this is going to be a good vacation!
